Lost my job promotion because I told my co workers that I was being considered for it.

Hey all, I hope you're all doing well. I really just needed to vent because today didn't go as planned. So I recently learned that I'd become the new assistant manager at my job, per an interview I had with my new GM just last week. I've been working harder than everybody else & have worked consistently, without question, outperforming my job duties because of my passion for my career, and making sure my co workers have a comfortable work day. I really do love what I do & the great people I work with. However, due to my inability to keep this information to myself, I got pulled into my bosses office this morning & was essentially ridiculed for 5 minutes about the consequences of telling my co workers that I was being considered for the promotion, but that it wasn't guaranteed.

I left that sit down very, very upset with myself.

But here's the kicker: I was never told to keep it private and it was very apparent among my coworkers that I would get the promotion based on my work ethic & ability to be reliable, consistent and have a solid ability to lead. This was not a surprise to anybody and yet I was yelled at because I shared this information with 3 co workers.

Am I in the wrong? It was a complete lack of communication on my GM's part and I paid the price for it. I don't know where to go from this point on. I don't want to leave my job & find another place to go. I love my store, my co workers and the fact that I live nearby. This just sucks and I don't know where to go from here.

Thanks for coming to my TED talk.
