Have been looking for a second job recently, saw a craigslist ad for a local business looking to hire someone “asap” so I reached out and they asked me to come in for an interview. I thought I was lucky to find a job so quick so I quickly headed over for the interview.
After waiting for the owner for about an hour he walked in and looked at me and asked if I was Hispanic and I said yes. He then asked “so do you have papers?” and I said I was born here.
His response: “look I'll be honest pay is $6 an hour so this job is for someone with no papers and no other options.”
I didn't even know how to respond, I feel like reporting the business but they had about 5 employees who I'm assuming are undocumented and don't want to risk them getting into trouble.
