I’m about to switch to waitressing what should I look out for to avoid “red flags”?

I’ve never worked as a waitress but to focus on nursing school I’m quitting my clinical job and switching to serving part time, I have no idea if when jobs list 15-20 an hour that is counting from tips or what? What is sharing tips and how does that work? I apologize if this is not the place to post it
