I recently went to ask my boss for a raise, I haven't received a raise in 3 years while my responsibilities have only gone up. I was told to go if I wasn't happy working there, I have been working there for 10 years. My coworkers have received raises so I'm fairly sure they are trying to get me to quit to avoid paying me severance.
On the other hand I know that they have been artificially reducing sales or not including full sales in order to receive subsidies up to 75% of wages. Here in Canada there needed to be a 50% drop in sales to qualify for the subsidies, I work at a restaurant and when the pandemic hit we geared towards take out which resulted in minimal losses in revenue 5% tops and I know this from sales reports. They also get rent subsidies so they are making more money than ever, I know they've purchased new vacation properties.
I don't really care for the job anymore and I even find it super toxic, this isn't the first time they have been unethical and I know several ex employees that have left on bad terms and took them to labour court.
I have another job kind of lined up that would be paying me more but I would still like to get my severance. Thinking of threatening them with reporting them to the revenue agency or just leaving and also reporting them. If found guilty they would have to repay the subsidies plus 25% and up to 5 years in prison. Any advice would be appreciated if you are familiar with labour laws in Canada.
