Manager threatened to fire me if I didn’t get better customer survey results.

This happened years ago but I thought it might be appreciated here. While I was in college I worked as a low level manager in a department store in the mall. It was awful and the store manager did everything within her power to somehow make it worse. I was in charge of all the cashiers. Like most stores we had those stupid surveys on the receipts and they made a huge deal out of them. They asked questions about the merchandise and pricing and quality, all things I can’t control, but that doesn’t matter, they just want to see 10’s. This particular department store sucked so of course we didn’t get that many. The scores rating the cashiers were always good and I think that should be all that counted on our end. But no. They asked questions about the merchandise and pricing and quality, all things I can’t control, but that doesn’t matter, they just want to see 10’s.

This particular department store sucked so of course we didn’t get that many. The scores rating the cashiers were always good and I think that should be all that counted on our end. But no. The store manager liked to tell us that if we couldn’t bring up the scores she would fire us and find someone who would. I’m pretty sure they factored into her bonus. I didn’t get a bonus so I could really care less. But I got real sick of constantly being threatened over something that was out of my control.

The thing with these surveys is that you just needed the number on the top of the receipt to fill it out. So I just went into the system, wrote down a bunch of numbers from receipts where they paid cash and went home and did them and gave us all 10’s. Not too many, just enough to keep the number high. I bet they wondered why their scores tanked when I quit.

If you get a survey please give them 10’s. It will make a poor, underpaid retail workers life so much easier.
