So I work at a country club in Newport as a pool server. My boss is white, go figure, I'm Asian and I've never been targeted before in my life til I started working here. I'm a minority but there's tons of Asians in california. Anyways my boss doesn't like me and is very condescending towards me. I think she may know my background and I came from a top university, I'm just working temporarily here while I change careers. I suggest changes to their PoS BC I'm tech savvy and I want things to be easier for the staff. I don't want to overstep her but I've always offered to help way more than the other servers who are just HS or college kids. I like her boss better than my direct boss. And I talked to the director about my direct boss targeting me and not being nice to me. So she said she would talk to her about it. I didn't want any drama and I told the director I don't know if this would help.
Anyways, fast forward I got sick w COVID took two weeks off. After that , my boss NEVER scheduled me. It's very obvious she doesn't like me and she always treated me like a child. She was much nicer to the other white coworkers and I was literally the only Asian person working here. Minus one of the directors who is an Asian lady. I knew that Newport beach and beach cities in oc are pretty racist but I never felt that til I started working here.
She would joke around and pal around with others and never with me. If I made a mistake she harped on me HARD for it.
Also,, her daughter works with us as a server. She doesn't do shit. Like Im one of the older servers there. I think my boss just feels threatened by me cuz I know a lot more than her . She used to be an elementary school teacher and now is pool manager.
Anyways, I was going to plan to quit before I take my vacation late August. I haven't worked on several weeks. Contacted her but she said they reduced pool staff.. what can I do? I do have a job on weekends working at hotel as cocktail server. So I don't think I can apply for unemployment. But I dunno what compensation I can get and I can't prove racism. Also she always cut me first if the pool was busy and I barely got hours when I was working there.
