I work with two others in question, A and B (not their initials). I make 24.00/hr. Coworker A started around the same time as me and makes 22.00/hr. I was told, by Coworker A, that is is because I have a college degree and am being compensated for that effort.
Okay, fine, if you're not upset about being paid less I won't fret.
Coworker B started one month ago. His wage is 23.70/hr. He served in the military and completed his time, but does not have a degree.
I wanted to contact the recruiter we all share and bring this up. We have been short staffed for a while, so did the wage for the position increase? Is he being compensated for serving in the military like I am with my degree? Even if so, I wanted to bring it up for confirmation. I have this drafted:
“Hi Recruiter, I have a few questions. We have a newer team member in the ABCXYZ department at Company. He stated his wage is in the mid 23$ range. I am making 24 because I have my degree, and another coworker is making 22. Neither of them have degrees but they are paid differently. If the average wage of the same position has increased due to the lack of applicants or to create incentive for interest, I wanted to ask why none of the existing employees were compensated thusly or notified of a wage change. If I am misunderstanding the premise, please correct me.”
Should I provide less known information, more, or just call it a day and accept nothing will change?…
I plan on leaving this company within a month anyway, but I just want the recruiters to know that we know what's up. Company policy states it's encouraged wages not be discussed, of course, but they obviously can't take action against specifically that.
Edit: took out identifying info in draft
