Being fired for having cancer

I have a dear friend which was working on a company for some 4 years as external. A manager left and they invited her to that position, moving for a permanent contract. About a year later, she was diagnosed with breast cancer and was immediately to start treatment and scheduling a surgery. She let her manager know, so they can prepare for her absence (1~2 months, to happen ~6 months later), and got fired on the next day. They openly said she was a liability and they can’t keep her as she could be a burden. She is a brilliant professional, on her late 30’s and with 2 small children, one of them in the autism spectrum. I got so mad when she told me that I offered to pay a lawyer to sue them, she said that she totally understand their point and would not do anything. Fell like I could kick some teeth on that office….
