Age 17, had my second day as a kitchen porter at a fine dining restaurant. All of the people there are really chill and nice however the head chef is telling me that I will need to work 10-12 hours a day even though legally I am only allowed to work 8. For now we discussed it, and he made me start later so today am gonna be starting work at 1pm and finish at 10pm which should be around 8 hours with brakes, but he said that at Fridays and weekends I would need to work from 1pm to 11 or 12pm because there are more people. The hourly pay is very good for my age but the job is also difficult and the hours are wack, the head chef said that I would be working up to 36+ hours a week even though it's “part time” and since am under 18 I legally can't do more than 40 hours.
I've discussed the times with my brothers who are going to be the ones picking me up after work because that area is not great and there aren't many buses at night time so someone picking me up is the best option, though I was also considering getting a moped after my first or second paycheck.
Anyways I will get to my point now, am thinking if I should finish working this month and quit or if I should keep working because it is pretty intense and I don't know if I can keep up my grades in college once it starts and work a demanding job at the same time. I don't really know if this post fits here or not but I feel like I need some advice or another perspective.
Also I was supposed to have my contract signed there yesterday because that's what the head chef told me last week but yesterday he told me that he can't do it because some person that does the contracts is on holiday which is a bit suspicious because like why are they looking for people to work for them if they know they cant give them a contract yet. So my dad has been really pissed off at me and says I should probably ask to get paid for the current hours I've done and quit.
