Unexpectedly got a job offer for a base salary raise of about 30k annually. Have worked my ass off at my current job bringing in lots of sales dollars to the company, always working late, working weekends, and making sure the rest of the guys in the company are taken care of. Im the guy all the other plumbers go to when they have questions about getting things done or how to solve a problem. Or if a job gets fucked up I get pulled away from taking care of my customers to fix these other jobs. The owner of the company shows up in the middle of a job at the end of the day and tells me I don’t have what it takes to be in a management position at another company and I will definitely get fired if I don’t work with him. Then says he is just going to terminate me Friday so I need to have my truck cleaned out (office will have a check for me when I walk in Friday paying me out until the end of my two week notice). I was so fucking mad, I have been promised for the last year that I would be put in a management position. Anytime I brought it up I would get some excuse about money. Except I do the ordering of materials and calculate job cost with labor and see most jobs pull in between 30%-60% profit margin, obviously fuck ups happen that we have to fix. Yet they still had me managing everyone’s job and paying me barely enough to scrape by. This is the same guy that told me I don’t need a raise because I get paid through the VA for going to trade school at night, something I earned after ten years in the army.
