After months of silence, one of the dozens of applications I sent out resulted in a job offer. I was ecstatic. The offer was proposed (and accepted) verbally in a phone call approx. two weeks ago.
HR: “We’re thrilled that you’ll be joining our team! Thank you for your application and we look forward to seeing you in the office.”
Me: “Thank you so mu-“ click
The hiring manager cut me off before I could finish but I didn’t care too much at the time. Throughout the next week, I was checking my email and mailbox nonstop. No formal offer, paperwork, etc. ever came.
Yesterday, having grown concerned I missed the email, I called the same hiring manager back. I explained that my formal job offer never arrived and apologized for the delay.
She then explained that the position was no longer available to me.
HR: “We value team members who are quick to take initiative. Unfortunately, our offer has been rescinded in response to your lack of action. Thank you for considering employment with [insert shit co. here].” click
Thank God I planned on only giving 24 hours notice, as this bullshit hiring practice would’ve screwed me over.
Why do hiring managers feel the need to play games with candidates? The desire to see applicants grovel and plead is gross.
