Update from last post

So, gave my two week notice last Friday. Wasn’t accepted and they finally came to me with an offer to stay. Essentially a $20,000 USD pay raise per year plus extra days off. Leaving one sales position to essential enter the real estate market. With the current job I make a really great living each year but really don’t like what I do. At the same time, there is a lot of Harassment, tough schedule, dealing with crappy people daily, and most important to me is I’m currently missing out on 90% of my family get togethers(we have 4 children from ages 7-13.) The new job would give me way more flexibility and management of my own schedule. Leaving one sales position to essential enter the real estate market. With the current job I make a really great living each year but really don’t like what I do. At the same time, there is a lot of Harassment, tough schedule, dealing with crappy people daily, and most important to me is I’m currently missing out on 90% of my family get togethers(we have 4 children from ages 7-13.)

The new job would give me way more flexibility and management of my own schedule. Training is awesome and when I interviewed the broker I will be working with, I loved what I heard (from agents, broker assistants and most importantly the office staff.) turn over is ridiculously low and all the employees at the perspective job seem to love it.

Here is the catch, if I take the new job I am 100% commission. No benefits, I am a self employed sub contractor to the broker (that’s just how real estate works.) I have no pay until I start selling homes. The absolute quickest check would be 45 days if a sold a home on day one. No way I’m making the same money. Shit will get real tight at home and my savings will dwindle. But….. I am really excited for the change. I really like the idea of being my own boss. I love sales and real estate kinda excites me. But on the other hand, I have great security and benefits and an awesome income but can’t see myself doing it the rest of my life (I’m turning 40 this year.)

I need some constructive thoughts here if anyone wants to chime in. Thanks for reading.
