It was announced this week that everyone in our department will receive a 10% pay increase. Their reasoning was because of inflation and our commitment through the past few years, but an additional ~$200 a month isn’t worth much when rent has increased 30-60% in our area.
I’m not trying to be ungrateful or greedy, and feel like I’m typically logical with reactions. I know my employer could’ve just done nothing and has good intentions, but granting our department with a 10% raise feels more out of touch with reality than generous.
