Can I get fired for being sick for too long?

I know this probably isn’t the best subreddit for this type of question but I know a lot of you are knowledgeable on employee protections. So I developed post-covid vestibular neuritis (basically severe vertigo and nausea), and I got sent home a few days ago at work for throwing up. My doctor didn’t me a specific date for when I’d be better, but my boss expects me back tomorrow. I haven’t gotten any better, and today I fell trying to walk to the bathroom and cut and bruised my back. I can barely even walk, and my job requires standing/lifting. I can probably call out a few more days, but there is a chance that I won’t feel any better for up to 6 weeks. My boss has a tendency to fire people on the spot. If I were to be let go, is there anything I can do? I…

I can probably call out a few more days, but there is a chance that I won’t feel any better for up to 6 weeks. My boss has a tendency to fire people on the spot. If I were to be let go, is there anything I can do? I can’t afford to miss work right now, especially lose my job.
