I just got a new job as a lifeguard but the pay is only like 15% above minimum wage, which is less than 2 bucks.Also, the minimum here will be going up 3% in a few months. I don’t know if the lifeguard wage will go up. At my current minimum wage job at a restaurant I can make the around same as this lifeguard wage after tips (also the tips are nothing exceptional)I think that the current wage is way too low, given the stature of the job, the skill required and especially since I had to pay 1000$ for all the courses etc. I’ve had my orientation and my first shift is scheduled in a few weeks when I get back from a trip. How do I ask for a raise?
Edit: this lifeguard job is temporary. I didn’t spend 1000 on courses only to realize that i won’t get it back. There is another guarding job that pays very well that I need one more course for.
