I recently applied to a marketing company looking for several senior developers. Compensation is great, benefits are great, it is all WFH. I did the exams, passed the interviews, and made it to the final interview with the boss. She is in her late 40s or early 50s (I couldn't tell).
I was almost ready to accept this job until she said:
“Sometimes I will yell when things are not getting done. Are you able to handle that?”
She also added that she wouldn't yell at a specific person but would often do it to the whole team. Idk about you guys but this is a red flag for me.
20 year old me as a fresh graduate would probably say yes because I'd be desperate for a job. But after a few years of experience, handling terrible clients, terrible co-workers, and bosses. I don't think I have to put up with this type of bs. So I said.
“Nope. I don't think this is gonna work out for me.”I thought I would get a generic “Okay thank you for your time and wish you luck” response but no she said:
“If that is your attitude, you won't get anywhere.” then mentions something blah blah about millennials feeling entitled blah blah and how we don't like to work hard. I cut her off and said
“I don't have to pick this job and I don't have to work for a boss who admitted she has anger management issues. No wonder you are looking for new senior developers.”
And I said something like
“Let's not waste any more time. Okay bye.” then turned off the zoom interview. I know this is kinda rude. I even wanna add “Excuse me, lady, I have been to places. I have traveled across the world and experienced different cultures, been with different people and on different places. “
Idk if I am being an AH here or what. But I feel like I made the right decision to reject this job. Although compensation was great, I don't think it is gonna be worth the stress. Mental health above anything else. Also I have other job offers and interviews. I'm not worried.
