What happens if I don’t serve my full notice period?

I’m working on team A where due to a recent promotion in October means that instead of 1 month notice, I would have to give 3 month notice if I decided to leave the company. In December I was offered to work on team B (literally, as I wasn’t looking for another job, no interview – was just told about the opportunity and I thought it would benefit my career). It was all very informal and other than transcripts Skype conversations with both team A and B leaders, I have no official confirmation of this. Also, would be doing the same job I’m doing on Team A, which isn’t management. When the discussions started regarding my transfer at the beginning of January, I was told team A will hire someone to replace me and I would train them for a couple of weeks before moving to Team B permanently, which…

When the discussions started regarding my transfer at the beginning of January, I was told team A will hire someone to replace me and I would train them for a couple of weeks before moving to Team B permanently, which I thought was fair.

Whenever I have asked my current team leader if there was any progress on my move, I was met with more and more confusion every time. Last I heard was that there was only one interview and that’s all they were allowed to say. Team B is a new client (end of Jan) and I have been working 1 hour/day on this team for the last 3 weeks. Team B’s manager asked Team A’s one to increase the time spent on their team and was refused just a couple of days ago.

Team A is severely understaffed already and it’s obvious that they’re dragging their feet because of this. They’re notorious for this – colleague went on maternity leave, which they knew for months beforehand and they only hired a replacement 4 months AFTER she went on leave.

This together with many other things going on Team A paint a picture of management not really interested in how much they overwork and pressure employees are put through just to get through the workload each day.

I’m kind of reaching the end of my line and I’m absolutely tired of having the job with Team B dangled in front of me for the last 2 months with no end in sight.

Whilst I would feel terrible for team B, as they did nothing wrong in this situation, I’m thinking about leaving the company altogether.

Also, this is a company in England.

My question is, if I was to leave the company, do I have any leverage in not serving my full 3 months notice? (I want to work for 4-6 weeks) just thinking a lot of jobs wouldn’t wait 3 months for me. What would happen if I didn’t serve the whole 3 months?

Happy to give more info if anything need clarification.

Thanks
