Unpaid redundancy or quit my job? What would you do?

Hi everyone. Thanks for reading… I’ve been recently threatened with redundancy at my workplace. Other members of staff in the same role as me have also been threatened with potential redundancy. I know it will be me that will be told to leave due to the following: Basically, the company and managers plan on ‘assessing’ everyone’s skills and making cuts to staffing. 1.3 FT jobs are up for dismissal and I know that I’m the least qualified. I’m a teacher in the FE sector if anyone’s curious. The college doesn’t have an adequate amount of students for the next year and have offered me a different job at the college, a job that I’m simply not qualified to do. I only started in April, while I was STILL studying my postgraduate teacher training qualification (PGCE). A bit frustrating, but understandable that the company would see me as a cheaper option…

I only started in April, while I was STILL studying my postgraduate teacher training qualification (PGCE). A bit frustrating, but understandable that the company would see me as a cheaper option that hiring ad-hoc cover teachers.

I’m considering handing in my notice tomorrow so that I can look for other work, another college is interested in taking me on.

I’d be interested to see what fellow Redditors would do in my position.

I’ve also got a wife and kids that I need to provide for, so it’s essential that I work over the next academic year.

Edit: Forgot to mention that I’m on probation still (it’s a 6 month probation) and I won’t get paid for being ‘made redundant’.
