As the title says I might be losing my job with my WFH position due to an internet outtage. A few days back I woke up and started my usual routine of getting dressed and grabbing my work chair. Opened my work computer only to find it had no connection to my internet. I turn on my TV to find no cable. Check my landline and no dial tone.
Over night we had a big storm and lightning had fried a few powerlines in our area taking out our internet lines for the entire area code. I ended up speaking with a rep via chat, took screen shots over 3 days and provided pictures of crews working on powerlines throughout my neighborhood. That may not be good enough to hold my job according to my supervisor and our team regional. Because the screen shots don't have dates and Because I already have some attendance point for using the bathroom that accured over 3 1/2 months I'm looking at possible termination.
Keep in mind we only get 3 minutes between calls to use the bathroom. Yes we have two 15 minute breaks and a 30 minute lunch but damn it I can't hold a turd for 2 fucking hours in pain while getting screamed at Because fedex delivered someone's patio furniture a day late. I'm now being told that I have to give a 48 hour notice if I'm going to be gone for an emergency. Not sure how I can predict where a lightning strike is going to hit two days in advance but whatever.
I'm really upset about this because for the most part I actually really enjoyed this job. I can't work in regular retail after suffering an injury that limits my vision so this was the alternative. The PTO was great and the bonus was practically easy to achieve but the time constraints are brutal. I was working up to transferring off the phones and just doing chat and emails but now it's looking like I may not get that chance. The job pays pretty poorly but damn it I haven't enjoyed working this much since I was laid off from best buys warehouse.
If I lose this job I think I'm going to take a break from working. I've given so much these last few years working jobs that weren't safe for me anymore and finally made the switch to something safer just to get screwed over again ? Why would anyone want to keep trying at this point ?
