Decided to post here and get this off my chest. If you're from the Bay Area and work in tech, feel free to share your thoughts and encounters.
So few years ago I met this guy at a meetup. We kept in touch and hung out here and there. Very clean and professional dude working in tech space. Few months ago he invited me to go clubbing and offered edibles. They had no effect on me and I stayed sober, but the dude got blasted and started to rant and rave about sex. At one point he shared with a straight face that he went to a satanic orgy hosted by a buddy in tech. When I asked how common these parties take place in tech, he said it's fairly common, along with the drug use. Worse is he felt no shame and regret in going to this type of place, needless to say we stopped associating.
How often does this really happen in tech companies in the Bay Area? It's fucked to think some of my co-workers may have gone to these places and have to live a double life in order to keep a clean profile. Honest work and honest living becomes a fantasy. If these parties are real and do happen a lot, then California is legit fucked since you can't even have a six figure salary without selling your soul to literal depravity.
