I don’t want to post this is in the typical life advice subs because I want a leftist perspective. But also a realistic one, so please keep that in mind!
I woke up yesterday morning to a text from my manager saying I was scheduled to come in roughly 1 hr 20 min before I woke up. Checked the schedule, she was right. She also said I didn’t need to come in anymore. Normally these texts would make me panic and rush to get ready, but this time? I almost went back to bed.
Don’t get me wrong I don’t have tons of savings but I’m living at home, leaving for school soon, worked all last year, and worked in food so I saved a lot lol
Anyways, we’re a small locally owned chain. Small enough that I’ve met the owner multiple times, he remembers stuff about us (he has a fact sheet but I find it endearing, I should start one), and overall management has been better than corporate food service.
Usually when people leave on good terms, there’s a small little send off during their last shift where everyone says goodbye. They also usually send a goodbye to the group chat before leaving. I’m friendly with a lot of my coworkers, a lot of us went to high school together or took classes at the CC.
Do I say anything in the group chat? I’m thinking just text the people I’m friends with. Or post a screenshot of a funny tweet about it (I’ll think of something) on the coworker/friend/peer snapchat story I made to efficiently share work-related TikToks. Something something trauma bonding…
And do I say something to my managers? In general they’re pretty good as far as managers go, based on both my experiences and what I’ve seen online. Acknowledge that I’ve seen the firing?
Also I’m assuming the text means I’m eligible for unemployment…
