Sorry if this is the wrong place
After almost fifteen years with one company, I started a new job that I like fairly well. I'm in a more “entry-level” position than at my previous company, which is by choice and suits my lifestyle and the desire to actually maintain a work/life balance. I have very few complaints, but at my location at least, time card manipulation by management is widespread and generally seems to be accepted by the staff. Is this normal? Is it legal? I've been with the company for two weeks and I've documented my experience below, names changed. This is an hourly position with commission.
Punches were entered for me for my first several shifts since I didn't have an ID. Fine, but they should have been more accurate.
Tuesday 8/9 I closed the store with Andy and Zoe, leaving late at 7:51 p.m for a 7 p.m. out. On Wednesday 8/10, Andy noticed his out punch was changed to 6:51 p.m., as was Zoe's. Mine was still correct at 7:51. Andy brought it up to a supervisor who fixed their out punches to match mine- we left together. Manager found out and scolded everyone publicly -she'd removed the extra hours worked and moved them to a different shift to make our labor targets look better.
Andy showed up on time for his next scheduled shift but was made to wait 45 minutes to punch in since he was over on hours and no unapproved OT.
I was told we don't punch in or out at all on Saturdays because of payroll. I worked until 7:10 p.m. on Saturday 8/13/22 and was told on Monday when I asked for the time to be added that it could not be and that I should take an extra ten minutes on my lunch break. I did not and persisted and was given my accurate punch.
This seems dishonest at best and illegal at worst. I'm new to this particular job but have many years in retail management and corporate policy and my previous company would fire anyone doing this.
Thanks for any input. I have no idea how to even reach HR. There is not an HR person in the building, nor have I been given the info to reach them.
