I’ve been trying to learn how to set boundaries for myself in every aspect of my life. I currently work PT (25 hours) at a university doing a job I love that will benefit me in school next year. It is a very specific set of hours Mon-Thur.
I recently interviewed for a second part time job that pays well and said they would 100% work with my schedule. That was last Wednesday. Guy told me to call him the next day to see if I could get this Thursday off for training (I think they have a small group of us?). I called, emailed, left messages, and heard nothing for a week. I seriously thought he ghosted me.
I get a text at 7:30 p.m. last night telling me “okay you start tomorrow 10-6”. I’m like …uh? I work 7-1 at my main job, and this is literally pretty last minute. And he texts back “Training is 10-6”. So I’m about to go in at 4 am to my current job to get what I need done today, I talked to my manager and she is so sweet and understood.
I texted him back saying okay I worked it out. And he said something like “Ok and I think training is at 9 next week, idk tho so ask them tomorrow”.
I didn’t even respond. It seems obvious that this guy doesn’t give a fuck about my main job, no? I’m going to send him this at 8 am:
“Hey so you said that I have training at 9 am next week, is that just Friday? I am not able to take time off from my job at xxxxxx during those hours, so I’m trying to make sure I understand”
Is that statement too aggressive right off the bat for this new job? Like I said, I’m horrible at boundaries and trying to learn new ones.
Edit: And wtf do I say if he just tells me training is during my work hours?!
