My job refused to make me a contract and said that the job listing was the equivalent of a contract. I got covid and they said I owed them 36.5 hours of work per my contract

I haven't seen the job listing since march lol. And fyi, a job listing IS NOT a contract. The bosses also told me that I was not allowed to discuss my salary with my colleagues. I asked them to make me a work contract, for both our sakes and they told me nobody had one, that it wasn't within their company culture. So many red flags, it looked like a communist UN. But alas, I'm a broke teacher and the job was teaching adults who do french immersion. I'm a French teacher, it was an easy gig, just for one summer. And yes, the job was easy, but my bosses were micromanaging assholes from hell. I was counting the days until I could gtfo. But alas, I'm a broke teacher and the job was teaching adults who do french immersion. I'm a French teacher, it was an easy gig, just for one summer. And yes, the job was easy, but my bosses were micromanaging assholes from hell. I was counting the days until I could gtfo.

Anyways, close to the end of my contract I got COVID, because yes it's still a thing. I show my bosses the proof and they tell me that I owe them 36.5 hours of work (the time I was in isolation) and that I'm obligated to do those before Sept. 2 because it's in my contract. Wtf lol, what are you going to do if I don't do those hours? Call the police because I'm not coming in? Sue me? We don't have a work contract and I've never agreed, verbally or in writing, to work after Aug. 19th.

Also, I can't because well, I'm a fuckin teacher and I have to go back to my real job that actually pays me twice the shit salary I had at the immersion school (yes it was this bad).

So anyways, I quit on the spot by text, as one does, while binge watching Netflix with COVID. I also reminded them THAT THEY NEVER MADE ME SIGN A WORK CONTRACT AND I WAS NEVER GIVEN A LIST OF TASKS I WAS EXPECTED TO DO.

As teachers we're exploited a lot, but I've never seen such exploitative, gaslighting bullshit. Fuck this, I was their only qualified teacher there and now I understand why. They don't seem to understand that there's a shortage of us and that litterally anyone else will hire me on the spot.

If you've seen my post before, I deleted it and reposted it because I forgot a whole word in my title.
