I don’t know if this is the right place to post about this but I’ve been following this community for a while and just thought I’d go for it.
I have been working for an entertainment production company as a freelancer for 6 years. All of a sudden I stopped hearing from them. The Slack channel I’m on with them has gone silent. Then someone I worked with told me they hired someone full-time salary who does what I do. This is the only way I found out and it was because I texted him one night asking if he knew what was going on.
I get that this is a part of being a freelancer – there’s no security. And yes I am trying to get another job which I know is going to take a while because I wasn’t prepared for job hunting and I am out of practice. I have been applying but not contacted for any interviews.
I can’t believe that after working with a company for 6 years and getting paid regularly and doing good work that I would just get replaced and screwed over like this and that no one has the decency to tell me. I’m going to run out of money soon and have no idea what I’m going to do.
I texted one of my project managers asking if I will be working on the projects I usually work on this time of year and she has not responded to me. I feel discarded and it really sucks. I hope something happens soon for me because I’m afraid of having to live in my car or move back in with my parents after thinking I had my life together. This is really scary and I’m just feeling upset. Thanks for reading
