in the state i live in (i'm not us american btw), public school teachers were on strike because they haven't been receiving owned benefits from the state for a while. additionally, their pay is shit and they receive little to none resources no teach – they often have to handle it through individual donations or buying from their pocket.
my father is a dentist with more than 30 years of experience. although he works many hours, he comes from a priviledged family that never had issues with paying for bills. he has always been an anti-comunist, conservative man and the only time he was an employee was when he was a teacher at a private university. the thing about him is, he always tends to think people are out to get him, specially employees. if an employee calls in sick, they must be lying and out partying. if an employee lost a finger, it must've been on purpose to get money from the company.
a few days ago, i was on the car with him and suddenly he started complaining about teachers.
“since 2018, they can't suck from the government's tits anymore.”
“public school sucks because of their incompetence.”
“they're trying to make this riot everyone's business.”
he finished with “i never got any benefits, why should they?”
at this point, i'm starting to believe everyone that is right-wing (and def conservative), has some unspecified emotional baggage/is selfish. if you never got benefits, shouldn't you be glad that people are fighting for themselves to get theirs now?? why do you want to keep others suffering like you did before???
