I work in healthcare and just left an extremely toxic environment. I was a receptionist.
I brought up some issues about a coworker constantly being late.. like 30+ minutes late and being overwhelmed due to the amount of patients I was having to check in. I also learned this new employee makes a dollar more than I do.
My other receptionist coworker constantly called in. She called in every Friday or Monday because she would go out of state to see her boyfriend. She Didn't have any Vacation time to use because she just started. This is a personal friend of the managers, so she was never written up for it.
My niece passed away due to a heart issue and I was denied bereavement leave because the manager stated that wasn't a close enough relationship to qualify for bereavement. The manager above my manager gave me leave after hearing about it.
I was also being harassed by a nurse and asked management to talk to her about how she speaks with her coworkers and patients. This nurse has made 4 of her coworkers who worked with her in her nursing pod due to how she treats them. It is common knowledge that this nurse is awful but they won't fire her because the current manager likes her.
I put my two weeks notice in and made sure that everything was taken care of. I made sure that oncoming staff was taken care of and would know what to do. Management started being super petty to me, as expected, because of my departure. I called in on my last day due to weather, there is literally so much ice where I am and the roads are covered. I received an email that I was being written up for calling in today.
This job made me realize that hard work ethic will never be enough to appease a manager who shows favoritism. Despite staying over hours to help the clinic I worked in due to others calling in, organizing the office, going above my job duties to help out others that won't be rewarded.
Do. The. Bare. Minimum.
