So, after months of being followed, monitored when he left and arrived at his area, spoken badly about, glared at, my employee decided to make a formal complaint (and had already gone on a couple interviews). The people doing this harassment are Norbert the head of the section and Wendy a supervisor that is friends with Norbert. The reason for this bullying and harassment is unknown – it seems that one day they both decided to start messing with my employee (Q).
The final straw that got Q to finally file a formal complaint happened about two months ago on a Friday. Q stepped away from his cubicle and I was in the restroom. Wendy started walking around the cubicles and in a very loud voice asking where Q was and if anyone had seen him. Wendy then texted my supervisor (who had the day off) – letting her know that Q was not at his cubicle. When Q found out, he came to me to make a formal complaint.
First, I emailed my supervisor and Norbert and asked if there was any reason why Q was being monitored. Moments later, walking down the hall I run into Wendy who attempts intimidate me with a look. Well, I decided to move it up to the human resources section. I walked over and made a complaint that Wendy was attempting to intimidate me and that Norbert and Wendy were harassing/bullying Q.
Late Monday, Norbert was called into a meeting with Human Resources. A few minutes after the meeting Norbert emailed me and Q and asked us to meet him in his office. In this meeting was him, my supervisor, me and Q. Before anything Norbert goes off the rails and starts yelling at us. He mocks the complaints, states that making these complaints are making it a hostile work environment for him so he should file a complaint, denied that Wendy did anything, wanted proof of ALL our claims (otherwise it was all hearsay), at one point Norbert said “there’s going to be some changes in my section. I could run this place like a concentration camp”
The next day I filed another formal complaint with Human Resources concerning the yelling and the concentration camp comment. Q and my supervisor were asked for statements.
The end result was that Norbert was “… made VERY aware of the severity of his actions.” Q a week or so later snagged a promotion in another department and left. Wendy and Norbert since then have tried to retaliate against me and my supervisor, but Human Resources smacked their hands and covered it up. Since then neither of them speak to me or my supervisor.
We lost a great employee and the Head of payroll said to me that so many people are leaving, it wasn't like that before – people would stay till retirement. I didn't care to remind her that it was a different group of Admin that treated employees properly.
