So I just make a fair point, I am Christian myself and very much anti-work and anti-capitalist. But it got me wondering what does fair pay and wealth are in general in the Bible which turns out a lot! And please for the love of God this is theologic debate, just something I found interesting and do not turn into one.
Let's start with Leviticus 19:13 which states,
You shall not oppress your neighbor or rob him. The wages of the hired worker shall not remain with you all night until the morning.
1 Timothy 5:17-18
Let the elders who rule well be considered worthy of double honor, especially those who labor in preaching and teaching. For the Scrpritue says ''You shall not muzzle an ox when it treads out the grain, and ''The laborer deserves his wages.''
1 Timothy 6:10
For the love of money is the root of all kinds of evils. It is through this craving that some have wandered away from the faith and pierced themselves with many pangs.
1 Timothy 6: 17-19
As for the rich in this present age, charge them not be haughty, nor to set their hopes on the uncertainty of riches, but on God, who richly provides us with everything to enjoy. They are to do good, to be rich in good works, to be generous and ready to share, thus storing up treasures for themselves as a good foundation in the future so that they may take hold of that which is truly life.
Deuteronomy 24: 14-15
You shall not oppress a hired worker who is poor and needy, whether he is one of your brothers or one of the sojourners who are in your land within your towns. You shall give him his wages on the same day before the sun sets (for he is poor and counts on it), lest he cry against you to the Lord, and you will be guilty of sin.
Proverbs 3:27-28
Do not withhold good from those to whom it is due when it is in your power to do it. Do not say to your neighbor, ''Go and come again, tomorrow I will give it- when you have it with you.
Context
Mathew 19: 16-21
This is the story of the young rich man. It goes as follows; A young rich man comes up to Jesus and says, ''Teacher what good deed must I do to have eternal life?'' Jesus says to keep the commands, to which the young man responds he has since he was young and asks what he lacks to which Jesus replies,
Jesus said to him, ''If you would be perfect go, and sell what you possess and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven; and come and follow me.'' When the young man heard this he went away sorrowful, for he had great possessions. And Jesus said to his disciples, ''Truly I say to you, only with great difficulty will a rich person enter the kingdom of heaven.
Ecclesiastes 5:8
If you see in a province the oppression of the poor and the violation of justice and righteousness, do not be amazed at the matter, for the high official is watched by a higher, and there are yet higher ones over them.
Ecclesiastes 5:10-12
He who loves money will not be satisfied with money, nor who loves wealth with his income; this is also vanity. When goods increase, they increase who eat them, and what advantage has their owner but to see them with his eyes? Sweet is the sleep of a laborer, whether he eats little or much, but the full stomach of the rich will not let him sleep.
Proverbs 28:22
A stingy man hastens after wealth and does not know poverty will come upon him.
Proverbs 28:27
Whoever gives to the poor will not want, but he who hides eyes will get many a curse.
1 Samuel 2:8
He raises up the poor from the dust; he lifts the needy from the ash heap to make them sit with princes and inherit a seat of honor. For the pillars of the earth are the Lord's and them he has set the world.
Hebrews 13:5-6
Keep your life free from the love of money, and be content with what you have, for he has said ''I will never leave you nor forsake you. So we can confidently say, ''The Lord is my helper; I will not fear; what can man do to me?''
Matthew 6:24
No one can serve two masters, for either hate the one and love the other, or he will be devoted to one and despise the other. You cannot serve God and money.
Acts 2: 44-45
And all who believed were together and had all things in common. And they were selling their possessions and belongings and distributing the proceeds to all, as any had need.
Acts 20: 35
In all things, I have shown you that by working hard in this way we must help the weak and remember the words of the Lord Jesus, how he himself said, ''It is more blessed to give than to receive.''
James 1:27
Religion that is pure and undefiled before God, the Father is this; to visit orphans and widows in their affliction, and to keep oneself unstained from the world.
James 5: 1-6
Come now you rich, weep and howl for the miseries that are coming upon you. Your riches have rotted and your garments are moth-eaten. Your gold and silver have corroded, and their corrosion will be evidence against you and will eat your flesh like fire. You have laid up treasure in the last days, Behold the wages of the laborers who mowed your fields, which you kept back by fraud are crying out against you, and the cries of the harvesters have reached the Lord of Hosts. You have lived on the earth in luxury and in self-indulgence, you have fattened your hearts in a day of slaughter. You have condemned and murdered the righteous person. He does not resist you.
Malachi 3:5
Then I will draw near to you for judgment. I will be a swift witness against the sorcerers, against the adulterers, against those who swear falsely, against those who oppress the hired worker in his wages, the widow and the fatherless, against those who thrust aside the sojourner, and not fear me, says the Lord of Hosts.
That's all I could really find, and it's a lot, and again do not turn this into a theological debate, there are other subreddits for that. This was just pure research that I thought I should share.
