Is this theft?

So, long story short, when I got hired, the hiring manager gave me a company shirt. Usually I have to pay $10 for it on the spot but I didn’t have the cash so they were just going to deduct it from my paycheck. Later on, I quit, and the hiring manager said to not worry about the shirt deduction and I will just get my regular paycheck. Eventually, I never get paid because apparently I didn’t pick up the paycheck in time, and a major falling out occurs (they hate me basically). I have voice records of some voice calls in which they berate me and cuss at me. Anyways, could they come back and say that I never paid for my T-shirt and stole it? Because there is no proof of the voice call with the manager saying to not worry about the shirt being deducted from my…
