Hi all. Welcome to my rant.
On thursday, I asked to see my boss to ask for a raise.
We have been 1 person short in a 3 person department since mid October. His replacement, who arrived 2 weeks ago, has no experience in my field but is 49 and has done sales administration for longer than me, though not that much for her age. She does not speak english and we work in export, so kind of an important skill to have…
My other co-worker is leaving on monday, she's paid more than I because she has more seniority in the company and was a sort of supervisor without the rank.
So, on Thursday I put on my big girl pants and went to my boss for a raise. 'Cause, you know, having more seniority, still being understaffed, being knowledgeable on all aspects of the company, being the only one in the company to know how to do certain things….
So I went for it and asked for a 150€gross raise per month, which would bring me to 24 K€ gross per year. For someone with my education and background, it really is not that good.
So I went for it. Only to be told that it would be discussed with my CEO, but it was 'not fair' for the new arrival 'because compared to her you are still a junior'. Who I remind you does not speak English and has no previous experience in export.
By that point I was already pretty pissed. I left the meeting feeling like crap.
So, I went searching for a job 'cause f 'em. And lo and behold…. I FOUND the add for the replacement of my colleague who leaves on monday with no previous experience required, for exactly the amount I wanted, raise included.
So I applied, after all, I have nothing to lose… and in the same movement applied for 2 other jobs. And if they find themselves with no staff in the department, well, sucks to be you, I guess…
