Medical Coverage Question

Today is 2.26. I have a resignation letter in my hand that puts my last day at work on Mar 14th. I want to just slide it under my bosses door and be done with it, but I don't want them to let me go on the spot, since she is back in the office on the 28th (considering my position they may very well do). If they do this I know I may be eligible for partial unemployment up to the 14th but I was hoping I wouldn't lose medical coverage for the month of March, I have 2 young children and a stay at home mom under my plan. I will get gap insurance for sure but if I could avoid paying $500 that would be nice. Should I just wait and put in the notice on the 1st? I don't want to chicken out either..
