I was at the grocery and the teenage bagger was talking to the woman who was leaving as I was paying. I only had like 3 things, so I didn't need a bag but wasn't wanting to interrupt. He started to bag while concluding the conversation and I said softly a few times I didn't want the bag: he got it and set it down. I joked about not wanting to interrupt him and he says, “oh that's fine, I'm supposed to be working anyway haha” so I said,
“Naw they don't pay you enough to work all the time, you're allowed to slack off”
He agreed, we laughed, I left. Hope that kid's proud of his union; they did a strike for better conditions a few months ago and it worked.
