Nepotism/cronyism rant

Is anyone else REALLY sick of seeing people who have family connections getting preferential treatment for hiring and/or promotions? It's even worse if they are unqualified or undeserving of such positions. I've seen it in all 3 post college jobs I've had. My wife has seen it in her workplace and was passed up on promotions by younger girls who have the family name. I've seen it benefit family friends, one example – a recent college grad with a criminal justice degree, and no relevant work history, got a job in the financial field because his dad is friends with a higher up at said financial firm. I like the guy and glad he's doing well but it's frustrating that I did all the “right things” (licensed engineer at an engineering company) when others get to skip the line and get positions/promotions they aren't qualified or deserving of. Or people working for family and getting paid 2X what the market rate is for that occupation.

I get that this is the way the world works but it's quite frustrating and I'm sure others have seen it too.
