Original post:
So six days after I got that supremely confusing letter, I got a call from HR explaining that I was suspended, and to call a different HR person to beg for my job back.
At the time I had my fingers in a few different pies, but nothing concrete, so I decided to at least TRY to get my job back so I could keep working until I was able to find something better.
I got an interview with a restaurant one day before I got the call from HR, but that ended up being truly horrible. I'm guessing the restaurant owner saw “long term recovering addict” in my cover letter and took that as an opportunity to just be really mean to me.
Because when I went to interview, he just treated me like shit. Claimed that I wasn't a worthy candidate for his precious restaurant because I'd just quit after a week because I didn't like it.
He just didn't want to believe me.
Which is what I explained to the HR lady who suspended me over the phone: that by doing this, they put me in a really difficult position. Working for her for almost three weeks and then suspending me over something I told them multiple times is a story most people will NOT believe.
Also, the number she gave me for the BIG BADDIE at corporate HR was dead. Literally just a message saying nobody was at that line.
Onto the good news:
Thanks to a teeny tiny bit of nepotism, I was able to get into contact with someone who owns a business working on hybrid batteries. It's a small operation with just two people and they DESPERATELY needed a third.
And the job PAYS. I wasn't kidding when I said it's 4X what I was making at the grocery store.
The nepotism part just got me in for an interview. Nothing was secured besides that.
I had a cover letter and references and everything and they loved me. And though most of you suggested that I not mention my history, I still did. Because I don't like surprises and I know employers don't either.
And they didn't have any issues at all with my history.
And now I have this AWESOME job that pays me adult money for the first time in my life and I couldn't be happier.
He even paid me for my time at the interview. This boss is SUPER fair so far.
I got so many supportive comments from y'all, I just wanted to let you know I landed well.
