Lessons from the great depression

During the first great depression the 40 hour work week took place and solved the main problems – high unemployment and low economic activity. More than 80 years later we are now facing the second great depression and reducing the work week further can solve most pressing issues.

Where should we start?

It will start with the highest paid workplaces such as IT where people would more eagerly trade time for money. Since the work force is increasingly in IT covering that industry should set path for the rest and towards setting a new standard in global labor legislation laws.

Why 20 hours precisely?

Simply because it means halving unemployment rates and doubling job offers.

How to get involved?

If you work in IT or another high paying industry and can afford it simply start demanding part-time jobs and asking every current or potential employer if they have them. Make it a strong selling point to work for them. Once we become a significant portion of all employees they will eventually start offering it. The same way remote work was a taboo and is now widely popular.
