Quit a well-paying job at Hilton.

I have worked in the hospitality industry for over 20 years and finally got the coveted General Manager position. Turns out, this particular company expects the position to work 80 hours a week, be on call 24/7, and coddle incompetent managers who are incapable of guiding operations, let alone employees. They were hired or promoted into their positions without having the necessary skills or experience and the failure was inevitable. This is endemic in the industry right now and it is hard to blame people placed in these positions. I blame the company entirely. By the way, it’s not Hilton‘s fault, the majority of their properties are franchised and operated by various property management companies. Leaving the job wasn’t easy, because I care about the people working there, for the most part… a few bad eggs. Ultimately, I am saddened that I have to leave the job and the people I was trying to build up, because the company bred an atmosphere of unrealistic expectations.
