Coworker slipped on ice because we came into the office

This situation was entirely preventable. We work from home two days a week and there is literally no reason not to work from home permanently except that our boss thinks it’s “good for everyone to see each other face to face”. We knew there would be icy weather days in advance but did not get the okay to work from home. My boss says the office is open and she is going in. I consider staying home but I give in because I’m an idiot. When she gets in the office she says she will send us home early if it starts getting bad. She basically waits until it is icy and the roads are bad and lets us loose. Our cars are all covered in a fresh sheet of ice and not everyone has a scraper because this weather is rare where we live. The roads are VERY slick even where it hasn’t frozen yet. Pass multiple accidents on the way home.

Turns out my coworker slipped on an icy curb, fell, and hurt her leg and now she is getting workers comp. The whole situation is infuriating but I’m glad she is getting money. There is no reason for it except my managers personal preference and distrust of employees working from home that apparently trumps safety concerns.
