My stomach turns in knots every time i think about this, but my boss has been underpaying me and my coworkers for 7 months. I am a delivery driver for a small pizza place and i make $10 an hour plus tips. The tipped minimum wage in our city is $12.85. My coworker called me yesterday and told me he found out a ton of things done at the restaurant are illegal, including the owner underpaying us, claiming us as seasonal workers so he can get away with giving us 11 hour shifts and only one half hour or hour break, rounding the time we clock in or out to the nearest 5 or 10, and recently the owner said he would take the price it costs to give customers free desserts out of my paychecks, as he gives the customers free desserts when we mess up. From what research I and my coworker have done, this is all against our city and state labor laws. Our plan is to work there for another month and gather evidence, quit and then go to the department of labor and report these things. I was going to quit this month but now im sticking around despite how much i hate working there. This whole thing is making me so extremely anxious, what if i mess up the lives of my coworkers? Or the business shuts down? I just found this out yesterday and i think im going to do this but im so nervous about it.
