Hello antiworkers, I too hate working but I have finally lucked into a cushy job. I cannot give advice on how to land a cushy job as this is my very first and tbh sounded pretty bad on paper but better than my other options at the time.First and foremost, my boss is young and hip like me. Understands life happens. We don't have a time clock and she told me she doesn't really keep track of time unless it's a consistent problem with you skipping out early or coming in significantly late. You'll get your 40 hour week even if you have a 2-3 hour doctor appointment every once in a while. This is really nice because I've always been and probably always wil be an hourly worker.
Second, I basically don't do anything. It's an 8 hour shift but I maybe work for like 3-5 hours max with a paid hour lunch included in the 8 hours I'm there. She makes us a daily task list and leaves us to do it. No micromanaging unless you really suck at your job. The rest of the time we can just chill at our desk or wander around the rest of the facility as we please.
To preface my next point, it's kind of a job where you generally need to be available to do stuff when you're chilling in case something comes up. But it's cool to take a 2-3 hour lunch if you let her know and we're not busy.
This is the first job where I have experienced not being micromanaged and not expected to at least pretend to be busy.
I still would rather sit at home and collect money for doing nothing, but this job has made a world of difference in my outlook on working.
All of my friends have had cushy office jobs for a long time and I never understood how they had time to do anything not work related while at work. My eyes are opened.
The only 3 downsides to this job is I live a good hour away, but I'm moving to within 20 mintues of work in the next week or two. The other downsides are the actual owner of the company is kind of a dick, and I am generally expected to be on call for the weekends. This could mean as short as an hour or two, or as long as a full 8 hour shift. I was told it is rare to have to actually be called in on the weekends, but I will be expected to at least say yes to coming in at least 1/2 the time they ask me too. Haven't actually experienced being called in yet so let's hope it stays that way.
Stay stong, your lucky break will come
