My coworker put in his notice and in a bid to keep him my boss offered to send him to school to become a registered nurse on the company dime. Which is awesome for him –he turned it down anyway– but he's only worked there for 2 years.
I've been working there for over 5 years. Never once have I been offered that even after expressing interest. I am cross trained for every position that doesn't require more schooling. I stay late, cover shifts, come in on my days off, work more hours than what I'm actually paid for to make sure everything runs smoothly and have called in sick maybe 3 times at most while working there. I had to call in sick about a year ago but ended up having to go to work anyway because the job I currently do no one else is trained for and the two sick days i actually didn't have to come in for I was bugged constantly by coworkers and the boss.
My coworker did mention they sounded kinda wishy washy about it when actually asking about it so maybe it was a false promise but what the heck? Am I so bad at my job that you don't want to invest in me? Maybe.
Either I'm the problem and am missing some crucial flaw I have or the rose colored glasses have come off and I'm being undervalued and mistreated(not from this) by my workplace/boss.
I thought about approaching the boss to ask about the offer but there's so many fucked up things I'm starting to notice and it's not worth it to potentially be indebted to this place for several years if they actually followed through with paying for me to go back to school. It's pretty sad I am teetering on the edge of walking away from something I was once passionate about.
