I install auto glass and drive around town all day to different jobsites to do work. Back in November, I was headed home from a friend's late one night and a car flying around a corner caused me to swerve and I clipped the fire hydrant. The other car of course did not stop, so I was issued a ticket. I went to court, and had the ticket dismissed. I am 37 years old and this is literally the first accident I have been in since I started driving at 15. I flat out ask the prosecutor when I was at court if being dismissed meant it was off my driving record, he told me yes so I thought everything was fine. Today, my employer informed me they were going to have to let me go because they could no longer keep me on their insurance due to me having this accident on my driving record. I called the courts, and they informed me that city court has no jurisdiction over my actual driving record and I would have to contact the state and see if they could do anything for me like maybe even offer some kind of safety driving course to get it off my record. the state informed me that my driving record is what it is, a record of my driving and there is no possible way to get anything removed. So after 5 years of loyalty with this company, and back in the job search tomorrow due to this accident. An unfortunate incident that happens unexpectedly and unintentionally.
It just doesn't seem right that I am to be punished not only for something that was outside of work, but I dare to say something outside of my control. Accidents happen, and this one cost me my income.
