What’s the limit?

Manager here. Hate on me based on that alone if you’ve got to, but the truth is I’m here in good faith and to gain understanding. I run a healthcare facility. I have a staff member who needs to miss work due to health issues (not yet eligible for FMLA), chronically, and often with almost no notice. I do everything I can to be reasonable and give people what they need, but this person has now run completely out of PTO and is impacting our ability to help patients the way we’re supposed to be. So, how do I best support this person while also respecting how a chronically absent team member impacts staff and patients?
