Tw: suicide
Should I be getting SSP if I went on sick during my notice period?
I started a job in June this year for a small business. Conditions and treatment were shocking. We would get verbally abused by the owner daily, which would continue into messages sent after work hours + other unmentionable behaviour.
I tried to leave, but was bribed with an increase in pay in exchange for a longer notice period. Stupidly, I accepted as I thought the pay would justify the terrible treatment.
Things just got too much though, and I tried to kill myself. In the last second I broke down and it hit me all of a sudden what I was about to do all because of my job and the way my boss treated me. The following day, I quit, contacted my GP’s and have been off sick since (currently 4 weeks) With explicit instruction from the crisis team to not contact my employer due to her narcissistic behaviour.
Yesterday was our payday. I did not receive my pay for the days I worked before I quit. I know I am entitled to this.
However, I didn’t receive any SSP either. Is this because I am in my notice period? I have contacted HMRC who are reaching out to my employer on my behalf, but this has been very stressful for me as I know my employer has no boundaries so I worry what she will do to me.
Has anyone else been in a similar position where they have gone off sick in their notice period? Did you receive SSP? What happened?
