So I work for a successful store. I work around 35 to 38 hours a week at $12.50 an hour. I clear a bit over $700 every pay period. Tbh, I'm not the world's best employee. I'm a single mom to a special needs child. Being in my position has been tough, I miss work when my kid gets sick or has major meltdowns at school. My job has been accommodating. I'm good at what I do, and am able to work in several specialized positions in the store. I've been there 2 years.
Here recently, 2 of my co-workers have been out due to surgery. I've picked up their work for the past week and a half. I've been exhausted, but on top of it.
When I left today, I got called into the office. They let me know my hours have been cut. I'm now at 30 hours a week. That's a huge $250 a pay period hit. I may see $1100 a month now. How am I going to survive? My rent is half my salary now, and let's be real; I'm not going to find cheaper rent than the $500 a month I'm currently paying. I'm also not going to find another job that will let me work Mon thru Fri, or give me full time benefits (which are EXCELLENT) at 30 hours a week.
I feel heartbroken. These people I work with I care about. I care about my store. Clearly they don't care about me though. I'm stuck. I'd love to Uber, but with gas prices, who can do that? I'm at a loss. Any advice?
