$15/hr isn’t enough.

…at least, not in my city. I’m working at $15.25/hr, and rent in the stinkiest room imaginable is just barely manageable for me (side note: my friend rents a “private room” for $875/mo, and there are actual prison cells that are larger). Once utilities and basic living expenses (food, phone plan, medications, etc.) are factored in, I will not be bringing in enough income to support myself. The only way I’ll be able to live here is if my family helps to foot the bill, and for a lot of reasons that is something I am not thrilled about. I’m really tired of people saying I could benefit from “financial literacy” seminars and “saving a little more from paychecks.” I’m already literate. I need enough money to sustain myself as a human being. I don’t know, I’m just really frustrated right now. Obviously people shouldn’t have to work in order…

I don’t know, I’m just really frustrated right now. Obviously people shouldn’t have to work in order to be fed and housed, but I’m working and applied for jobs the moment I turned 18! I’m doing all the things people tell me to do and yet I can’t afford to live. Fuck this.
