Second post here based on my experience working in the Videogames Retail industry.
One year my team and I made close to £250,000 profit for our firm. The majority of my team were youngsters (typically 16-22) and on minimum wage. They did Midnight Launches, 12 hour days, the lot. All because we felt the company cared for us, so we wanted to do our best.
The only bonuses they got was from me. I had friends at the big publishers and format holders, which allowed me to get promotional copies of games. Our parent company gave us the equivalent of £10 per person for a Christmas Drink. I put more money into our drinking kitty than our company did. I made sure that my team learnt from my mistake. Don't kill yourself to make others grossly rich. Do your bit, but not to the detriment of your own life. That quarter of a million quid went somewhere and it wasn't to us.
