i am an employee at my school as a work study. in addition to paying us $11/hr and only allowing us to work a maximum of 20 hours a week, they tell us we are required to attend a “career development” event at some point during each semester. attending one of these events is unpaid. is this allowed? i know the rules for a work study are sort of different so i’m seeking insight here. i live in pennsylvania.
