I know that the main reason anyone wants to work for me is because I will pay them. Nobody is working for me because the work is so much fun. If they were independently wealthy they would do something with their time, but not work for me.
That is the main reason they want to work for me, but it can't be the only reason. There are millions of jobs available why are you interested in mine? Geography is probably a factor. But certainly there are other factors as well.
I really care THAT you want to work here. I want you to enjoy your job. I want you to enjoy your jobs for 2 reason. First i'm a human who cares about other humans. Second, happy employees are good employees.
I also care about why because if everyone gives the same reason, i know where to invest my energy as it pertains to building a better work environment. For example i offer flexible working hours. Is that a reason you want to work here? If so, i will be sure to continue offering flexible working hours and be sure to advertise that offering in future job posting.
The truth is people seek jobs for income, less stress, this job is just closer to where they live, etc.
Case in point, so you want to work here because its a low stress job. Well that sucks because, I only have high stress jobs to offer. If you say that in response to my question, that's very good. Because i can tell you about typical stress levels in the job and then you might decided its a bad fit for you and i won't accidentally hire you into a job you dislike.
Other factors besides money, stress, and location include: working with people, not working with people, how much time you spend at a desk, how much time you spend outside, how many steps you take in a day, whether the location is air conditions, whether the position offers opportunity for advancement, how flexible is vacation time, will you have to work holidays, will you work alone or in a team, will you have a mentor, what are the consequences of making a mistake, will you have colleagues your age, does the job require travel, will you work make the world a better place,
you'll spend 23% of your life at work, the nature of that work matters to most people. Most people have choices in their employment options, and i want to know why you are considering me as an employer.
