Current gas prices have doubled over the last year in my area. It’s a multifactorial issue and I’m not pointing fingers. The reality is that these increases hurt the working class the most. Whereas a white collar professional might be able to work from home, many lower paid blue collar folks have no option but to commute both ways. This is not only expensive with the gas and mileage on your car but also costs you valuable time at the beginning and end of your day. You also can’t quickly do laundry etc when there is downtime.
Life isn’t fair and I get that. But the last couple years seem to have greatly accelerated the gap between blue and white collar workers. These gas prices really hurt those of us who do not have the WFH option.
And the idea of buying an electric vehicle has been thrown around as a solution by some pundits. …Do they seriously think we drive 16 year old shitboxes for fun? The median electric vehicle costs $55k. That’s not doable for a large percentage of households.
